Decorative vintage Borana basket from Ethiopia 

This beautiful ChoCho basket was used by the Borana people, a subgroup of the Oromo people to store and serve milk. ChoCho milk containers are hand woven from a yarn of plant fibers and decorated with silver wire. Then the tightly woven fibers are reinforced with a mixture of fat and resin to make the vessel waterproof. The smoky aroma of the Burana baskets comes from the charcoal cleaning process. The ChoCho Borana basket is old and has been used and has appropriate signs of use. The Borana basket stands on a metal ring. Unique piece!
