Vintage ceramic vase Anton Piesche

This vintage vase was designed by Anton Piesche between 1950 and 1960. Contrary to the trend at the time, he created simple silhouettes with contrasting engraved geometric shapes. His ceramics with smooth, two-tone glazed surfaces (usually a combination of black and cream or brown and cream) revived the ancient technique of sgraffito. The motifs that adorn them are engraved into the still-fresh clay. The motifs used, as simple as they are expressive, are very common in traditional Mediterranean ceramics, and there are examples of this technique dating back to the Neolithic period. A centuries-old method that has been reinterpreted in the kilns of the company in Kamenz, a small town in the former GDR. Ultimately, every vase from Piesche & Reif is a simple, timeless, and elegant piece.
